SJSU students participated in a phone campaign Wednesday in the Student Union to show the California State University board of trustees that students will not tolerate budget cuts.

"We're going to be calling the board of trustees of the CSU system to ask them to not increase student fees and no furloughs, because it's hurting the students," said Sue Pak, regional representative of the California Faculty Association.

The newly opened Global Leadership Advancement Center will help students learn to work with people in different countries, a business professor said.

The Peralta Community Colleges District has been drawn into the corruption scandal involving Oakland-based NBC General Contractors, whose owner Monica Ung is currently facing felony criminal charges for labor exploitation and insurance fraud.

NBC was awarded contracts by Peralta to perform work on the James Oliver Writing Center at Laney College, the Laney Bistro, and the Building A Renovation and Sidewalk Rehabilitation projects at the College of Alameda (CoA).

Tomasz Kolodziejak, director of international affairs, led student clubs in the multicultural parade Monday in honor of SJSU's International Week.

Kolodziejak said SJSU was ranked the sixth most diverse campus in the western United States.

The march took place in front of University House, the house of Associated Students, and continued to the Tommie Smith and John Carlos statue, then to the Cesar Chavez Memorial Arch, and ended at the Dining Commons, where students were prepared a Greek dish.

A 74-year-old man was killed last Tuesday morning while riding his bicycle on Stevens Creek Boulevard near the Flint Center, after being hit by a De Anza College student driving up the main entrance. The accident occurred at 9:15 a.m.

The bicyclist was identified as Cupertino resident Wanju Yu.
