The molestation charge was made against Boos on March 31, the same day his contract with SJSU expired.
The hearing took place in the courtroom located in the basement of the Hall of Justice, as the Honorable Jerome Nader granted the request at 2:30 p.m. and pushed the next plea date to April 30 at 9:30 a.m.
Boos was arrested on the afternoon of March 31 by the Santa Clara police at the Santa Clara Divers Club on a child molestation charge. Boos has confessed to claims that he sexually molested a 2-year-old girl in his care in the mid-1980s, according to Santa Clara police.
"We're going to review the case since it's so old I don't even remember," Boos said.
Whether Boos, who made bail in lieu of $75,000, will return to SJSU as the diving coach is still uncertain.
"It is important to note that he signed an affixed contract that ended on March 31," said Lawrence Fan, sports information director at SJSU, "so to refer to him as an SJSU coach would be incorrect."
"Renewing his contract would be up to the head coach," said Chuck Bell, director of athletics at SJSU. "If (the) allegations are true, however, it is up to the university to look at (the) allegations. He may not even want to come back."
As Boos walked away from the courtroom, accompanied by his attorney, he said he was still interested in the renewal of his contract as the women's diving coach at SJSU.
"(But) that's up to San Jose State," Boos said.
Although the decision is still left lingering, SJSU students and employees have mixed feelings about Boos' possible contract renewal.
"I was surprised that he's been coaching the women's swim team for this long," said Kathy Robinson, a junior public relations major.
Although some employees have similar reactions to Robinson's, some are staying neutral until more information is released.
"People in the department are shocked and dismayed at the allegations," said Bell. "Most people are just waiting to see if the allegations are true or false before rushing to any conclusions."
However, some students have already made up their minds about whether the former coach should return.
"His reputation is ruined. His rep now will hurt the team and the school," said Lonnell McGhee, a junior business major. "It might even discourage women to join the swim team."
Boos, 57, also known as "Coach Bill," had worked at SJSU since 1996 and at the Santa Clara Divers Club since 1999. He was the head women's diving coach at SJSU and was named coach of the year at the Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship in February, according to SJSU Athletics.
