Jesus Duarte, a customer service representative who also works at EB Games, said that the Nintendo Wii was the most successful throughout the holiday season and January.
"(Nintendo Wiis) were gone as soon as they were delivered," he said. "Playstation 3s would take a few days to sell out."
The total sales revenue made by the Nintendo Wii, including games and controllers, greatly surpassed the amount that the Playstation 3 brought in, Duarte said.
For the Xbox 360, the game "Gears of War" was a "system seller," giving the Microsoft console a large boost in sales during the holiday season, Duarte said.
"Gears of War" was the top selling game in December, followed by "Guitar Hero 2" (PS2), Madden NFL 07 (PS2) respectively in second and third places. "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess," being released on both the Nintendo Gamcube and Wii, was able to be the fourth and fifth best selling games in December.
Julian Chavez, a senior majoring in animation, said that he preferred the Playstation 3 despite the big success of the Wii and the Xbox 360.
"I'm just a bigger fan of their franchises and exclusive games," he said. He mentioned popular series' such as Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, and Metal Gear.
In 2006, the video game industry brought in $13.5 billion, an 18 percent increase over 2005.
It is still too early to tell which video game console will dominate the market this year. The only thing that is certain is that there will be fierce competition between Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo for your money.
