A small group of San Jose State University students met Friday, Feb. 2 to begin a new club focused on technology and new forms of media.
The group constituted the first meeting of the SJSU Technology and Emerging Media Club, which is still in the process of being recognized by the university. They met Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. in the Academic Success Center.
The goal of the club is to form a group that students that are interested in technology can get together. New technology and forms of media they plan on discussing are blogs, podcasts, video podcasting and virtual worlds such as Second Life.
While most of the initial members of the club are journalism students, the group hopes to bring people together from across the campus to hear from guest speakers and to participate in training sessions and socials.
The group also hopes to set up a website for members of the SJSU community to link to and post comments on. The website will allow those interested in SJSU to work together to create content and connect with each other.
All of the officers of the new club have their own blogs or Web sites. While having a Web site is not a prerequisite to joining the group, the founders see the future of media and communications as being online and want a way for students to participate and explore these new trends.
