The San Jose State University Research Foundation will hold a health fair on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for people whose busy schedules may get in the way of their wellbeing, said human resources associate director, Steve Barranti.

"A lot of frustrations from the day flow into the home," said Cheree Aguilar, director of human resources for the foundation, "and most folks don't have the opportunity to become more informed about health."

At the SJSU Research Foundation office on 210 N. Fourth St. in San Jose, faculty and students can find information on heart disease, diabetes and fitness.

"I always found health fairs fascinating," said Hanno Murphy a senior majoring in communication studies. "They have all this information and varied opinions and you can find some credible source to support any health theory."

Steve Barranti, the associate director of human resources for the research foundation, said the foundation cares about the health of its employees and urges them to make healthier life choices.

"Our goal is to help them raise their awareness that will increase their health and knowledge of how to take care of themselves," Barranti said.

This is the first time the research foundation has held such an extensive event, Aguilar said. There will be chiropractic assessments, vitamin juices, health bars and safety tips from the San Jose Fire Department.

"The benefit is for them to bring up their awareness and having a long life, not only a long life, a healthy one," said Debbie Jacques-Hill human resources benefits coordinator of the foundation.

Over 1,000 employees work with the foundation that manages grants and helps with proposals and getting funds for such groups as NASA Ames, a research project that provides information and products, which enable NASA missions, Barranti said.

"As an organization we cannot re-state more that our people are important to us," Aguilar said.

Barranti encourages students to come and take part in the fair so they can learn more about health and fitness.

"No matter what age we are, we can always learn something we didn't know," Barranti said. "Let's face it, when you're young and in your twenties, you're invincible."

The foundation is celebrating its 75th anniversary and wants to continue involving the SJSU community with the foundation.

"We are the little fish, but we want to open out doors to the campus," Aguilar said.

Aguilar said she wants the faculty to embrace the advantages the fair will offer for healthy living now and in the future.
