Access to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library system Web site remains unavailable because of a network power failure this past Sunday.

According to a news release, library users are unable to access the library Web site, as well as the catalog, databases and other online resources. Logging into personal library accounts will also be unavailable until the problem is resolved.

Pat Harris, media relations specialist for SJSU, said crews from the library and Facilities, Development and Operations were working around the clock to fix the problem, which involved a power failure in the computer data room.

"We think we've identified the problem," Harris said, adding that they will be doing repairs through the night to hopefully have the system up and running by Wednesday afternoon. "It's a small army of men and women working on this."

Pradeep Aitha, a second-year general engineer graduate student, said he had trouble finding books for an assignment but received help in finding the book through the King Library.

"I called the Santa Clara central library," Aitha said. "They had the book on their database, and they told me where to find it in the library."

Finding a study room in the library was also a problem for Aitha.

"It was difficult to book rooms with the computers down," he said. "We just found an empty room and took it."

Christine Larsen, a senior interior design major, said the power outage affected an assignment she had over the weekend.

"I couldn't do the library online tutorial," she said. "It was frustrating all weekend."

Larsen said her professor was understanding of the situation and gave the class an extension on the tutorial.

Harris said a meeting was held Tuesday night where there were discussions on how to prevent another server failure in the future, but as of now "they are pouring all their energy into fixing the current problem."

Another meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. to discuss whether the databases will be up and running by the afternoon.
