Residents of Campus Village Building C were evacuated Sunday at noon due to a grease fire on the third floor.
Firefighter Chris Sumner said a small fire was started by a student burning bacon and caused a hallway to fill with smoke.
"We are pumping fresh air into the hallway to force the smoke out of the open windows," said fire paramedic Vincent Dupree. "The whole process shouldn't take more than 10 minutes."
Students were evacuated for less than 15 minutes and allowed to go back into the building, except for the third floor where fire fighters were working.
Sydney Reed, an undeclared freshman, said she was glad the wait was brief.
Evacuated students waited in the Campus Village courtyard and on the lawns surrounding the building.
"I don't think (the resident advisers) handled it well," said resident Karina Chavez, a freshman sociology major. "They are supposed to have everyone meet down by the ATMs."
